Background:
Founded in 1862 by the Church of Scotland, Tarbert Academy was handed over to the school board following the 1872 Education Act. The 19th-century school building, located in the village of Tarbert, has since been modernised with extensions and adaptations. The academy won a fund-raising for Yorkhill Sick Children's Hospital and its work on the theme of 'the school at the heart of the community' earned it a Schools Curriculum Award in 1990.
